INFORMATION MANAGER FOR SAN JUAN ULTRA-EX
The incumbent of this position provides program support by serving as an Information Manager for the San Juan Urban Long Term Research Area -Exploratory (from now on SJULTRA-Ex) and its collaborators. This position is located in the Puerto Rican Conservation Foundation in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The SJULTRA-Ex team is composed of professionals from various natural and social science disciplines and our objective is to develop an interdisciplinary research program in collaboration with the local community and other stakeholders concerned with the environment and quality of life of our city. Major duties of the Information Manager include designing, creating, maintaining, upgrading, and enhancing the databases and web pages of the projects associated to the SJULTRA-Ex. Other duties include performing information needs assessment, determining optimal methods for achieving needs and implementing such methods, while following ULTRA standards. Additionally, the incumbent will be providing technical support and training to SJULTRA-Ex collaborators and personnel involved in the project.
Qualifications:
1. M.S. degree in a natural resources-related field or a B.S. degree in a natural resources-related field and a minimum of 2 years experience in research science or related fields. Degrees in fields such as computational mathematics or computer sciences may be acceptable with a minimum of 2 years experience in research science. Incumbent must be fully bilingual (Spanish & English).
2. It is desirable that the incumbent have 2 years or more paid work experience in database design, programming, and/or relational database management systems such as mysql, sqlserver, visual foxpro, or microsoft access. |
Experience with the following is required:
1) Database and web-based application programming and the development of web user interfaces using computer languages such as PHP, SQL, ColdFusion, CGI, Perl, or ASP;
2) Development of cross-site or network-based databases and new web technologies such as web harvesters or web services to facilitate their development.
3) Demonstrated written and oral skills (Spanish & English) and leadership and interpersonal skills required for working within a team of a broad range of collaborators (social and ecological scientists, graduate students, and non-science collaborators) is essential as is the ability to communicate with both resource scientists and technical computer programmers, and have the scientific understanding to integrate and synthesize data and information within an interdisciplinary research science team.
4) Knowledge of natural resources and social sciences so as to be able to communicate with specialists in related social science fields (e.g. environmental sociology, geography, planning, environmental economics, etc.) ecology, hydrology, and other biological sciences.
Employment conditions: This is a full time position for a duration of 1.5 years, with possibility of evolving into a permanent full-time position if funds become available. For the first year, beginning on July of 2010, salary rate will be $17,680 (6 months), and for the second year (2011) the salary rate will be $35,360 (12 months).
